Keeping up with the latest award winning restaurant, KORI, Bali Plus accidentally met Mr. Max, the sales and marketing manager, who answered questions concerning the combination of modern and traditional cuisine that doesn’t leave out that genuine Balinese zest. The story behind this successful gastronomy business eminated from the outstanding teamwork of the KORI staff who have dedicated their life to provide an array of flavours and first class service to a worldly clientele. Staffed by a team of experienced and creative people, both local and expatriate, KORI redefines the art of cuisine and the concept of traditional luxury. Modern international cuisine in a traditional Balinese setting is the core value that won KORI the “Bali’s Best Restaurant” award for five times.

Max states that since its opening in June 1998, KORI has constantly attracted compliments and return guests who remain loyal to the unique experience of great food and friendly services in a laid back atmosphere. Born with a true Bali spirit, Made Jati, the founder, wanted to create an authentic Balinese setting to bring serene comfort to the heart of Kuta where guests of all nationalities can expect a restaurant with a dedication to service and a passion for quality food. The architecture is pure Balinese, and KORI has been cleverly constructed to accommodate everyone, whether in the large and spacious main area, or in one of the discreet hideaway corners – secluded dining platforms, covered by traditional alang alang roofs, with large, plump cushions.

KORI’s menu, served by a smiling and friendly staff, is a tropical blend of Western and Balinese dishes with an emphasis on flavour and natural ingredients as fresh local produce is used to create these stunning dishes. Together, the KORI chef and his team constantly experiment using their combined creative flair to successfully blend new ideas with traditional ingredients and methods. The menu also includes a special homestyle cooking section for homesick expatriates featuring such dishes as Fish and Chips and Bangers and Mash. Balinese dishes on the menu include Ikan Pepes (Grilled Snapper Fillet in Banana Leave with Balinese Spices) and Semur Daging (Indonesian Beef Stew with Balinese Vegetables) with Balinese bumbu (spice mix) and sambal mentah. Meanwhile, for the special menu, Grilled King Tiger Prawns served with potato wedges, tossed salad, and garlic butter is one of KORI’s signatures that comes highly recommended.

A lavish cocktail and drink list, including exotic potions, are available at KORI as well. First-grade quality local liqueurs such as arak (palm wine), brem (rice wine) and Bali moon liqueurs are just to name a few. Meanwhile, a range of international quality wines and champagne, imported beers, and specially blended coffees are another option to enhance and complete the dining experience. And for those who are looking for a more relaxing dining place, KORI has an air conditioning room which provides a billiards table and an extensive selection of Havana’s cigars and cognacs. With all of these inclusions, it’s no wonder that KORI is an authentic icon for an exclusive Balinese dining experience.
